Negligent Driving, The Concept of a DD and much more!
By Avantika Singhal
There is no excuse or instant justification for negligent driving. It is a first degree crime and one has to live with the repercussions for the rest of their life. This is not just about the person committing the crime. It is more important to think about how many lives are ruined by the defendant’s actions.
If you fall under the category of youth and are reading this, think about the gruesome scenario of having to live forever with the fact that you destroyed the dreams and ambitions of a person and shattered their respective family’s hearts in the process.
I know. Consuming alcohol is tempting at an age as ripe as your own. However, what they say is true. You should not only think twice about what you say but it is the same with what you decide to do as well.
Peer pressure is so overwhelming in today’s times that you may be coaxed into consuming unhealthy drinks and drugs. That alone is annihilating to your mind and body. But making a decision to drive after that? That’s ten times worse.
Nevertheless, judging people for drinking alcohol or experimenting with drugs is old school and impractical. Therefore, there is someone called ‘Designated Driver’. According to internet sources, it refers to the selection of a person who remains sober as the responsible driver of a vehicle whilst others have been allowed to drink alcoholic beverages.
I know how tough it can be to not partake in drinking these beverages with your gang but if it means saving lives, then I feel that it is a necessary, rational and conscious decision.
Negligence can be easily avoided if you are a self aware and compassionate citizen. Often, people are under the influence of alcohol and they insist on driving which can only have disastrous consequences. This list not only includes mindless buffoons and rich underage kids but also some Bollywood celebrities.
A person’s life is even more fragile than the petal of a flower. Both crushed cruelly and their beauty and existence ends within a matter of seconds. Therefore, introduce the concept of a DD in your social circle and stay vigilant!
